Message from Morgan Gay, NDP candidate in Ottawa South
Friends,
Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers, activists and donors who made our campaign one of the most successful in the history of the Ottawa South NDP. Never have we raised as much money, recruited as many volunteers or engaged as many voters as we did during this campaign. We have a great deal to be proud of, and we have built a solid foundation upon which to prepare for the next campaign.
It was truly an honour to be our candidate for this election.
It is clear that we broke the national trend in Ottawa South on Monday. While the Federal NDP lost over a dozen seats and dropped substantially in popular vote Canada-wide, here in Ottawa South, we increased our popular vote considerably in terms of percentage and in raw numbers. In short – thousands more voted NDP in this election in Ottawa South than did in the last federal election, while the rest of the country trended in the opposite direction. What’s more, in Ottawa South, the Liberal vote dropped by 8% while the Conservatives numbers barely moved. Once again, the Ottawa South NDP has proven that we are on the move.
This last campaign represented another step in our fight for social justice, peace, equality and the elimination of poverty here in Ottawa South. It is these values that brought us together, and we are growing. The issues that drove our campaign remain, and so let’s recommit ourselves to the task of continuing to build our movement as we prepare for next time.
We’ve only just begun.
Thank you. Merci. شكرا جزيلا
